A Handful of Our Favorite, Exclusive Big Island Neighborhoods

While it’s true that you almost can’t go wrong when it comes to Big Island living, it goes without saying that some zip codes are definitely more exclusive than others.  As we referenced in our earlier blog, the good news here is that there’s a neighborhood for just about every preference one could have when it comes to luxurious Big Island living here on Hawai’i. Without further ado, today let’s share a bit about just a few of our very favorite neighborhoods for exclusive island living here on the Big Island!

Any list of the island’s best neighborhoods would be incomplete without mentioning Kukio. Situated into the lava of the island’s Kona coastline, Kukio is likely the most exclusive neighborhood in all of Hawai’i—so much so that Forbes Magazine wrote an entire feature about the neighborhood and its ritzy residents a few years back. If you’ve got the funds to make Kukio your new home, then you’ve certainly done pretty well for yourself!

Speaking of the Kona side, Kailua-Kona itself offers quite a bit for those who prefer both the amenities of an urban outlay and a larger community—or at least a larger community by Big Island standards! Ample selections for fine dining and entertainment will be right at your fingertips should you choose to reside in Kona, not to mention a wide array of higher-end single-family homes and condominiums from which to choose.

North Kohala, on the other hand, offers plenty of solitude to pair with its spectacular scenery for residents and visitors to enjoy. With rolling hills and abundant vegetation, the North Kohala area is renowned for its natural beauty and privacy, and has seen a rapid rise in the median sales price over the course of 2021 thus far.

Kamuela, also known as Waimea in some circles, is definitely the place to be for all your recreational needs. Some of the world’s very best in golf courses, hiking paths, and breathtaking scenery can be found in this charming and inviting area of the island. Kamuela is also home to the fabulous Mauna Kea Resort, circling one of the Big Island’s most-exclusive and sought-after communities in all of the Aloha State.

Holualoa is one of those smaller, picturesque communities that most non-Hawai’i residents picture when they imagine Big Island living. Holualoa offers some of the best weather to be found anywhere on the island of Hawai’i, not to mention some of the coolest art and farming communities around. What’s more, the median sales price for single-family dwellings has shot up a whopping 86% since this same time last year, solidifying Holualoa as one of the Big Island’s very best and most-exclusive enclaves.

Of course, these are but a few of our favorite island communities to be found on the Big Island—if we were to include all of our favorites, then this blog would be the length of a novel!
