Today we’d like to share a bit about some of our favorite local haunts and establishments to help you stay satisfied on your next Big Island excursion.
- The Paniolo BBQ Dinner: Let’s kick things off with a classic! The Paniolo BBQ Diner is an excellent place for you and your ‘ohana to take in a magnificent sunset meal, not to mention a wonderful place to cater your next special event or wedding. This Kahua Ranch establishment has an excellent menu of delicious selections and holds their weekly catered event to promote agricultural awareness of Hawai’i’s farming and ranching communities, making them a must-stop on your next tour around the island.
- The Fish & The Hog: Sometimes known as Hulu Se’s BBQ and Grill, The Fish and the Hog is your go-to for all things fresh and tropical, including their wonderful homemade dessert menu. A full-service restaurant with a well-stocked bar and two separate dining areas, this charming space in Waimea is open from 12-8 Monday through Sunday and is your home for well-made, tantalizing dishes that are sure to leave you and yours coming back for more.
- Merriman’s: Also located in Waimea, the world-famous Merriman’s is the brainchild of award-winning chef Peter Merriman, who also oversees locations on Kaua’i, O’ahu, and Maui as well. This well-heeded restaurant unifies all its locations around a single vision—”Do the right thing”—and does it well for their guests, not to mention for the local farmers by which they source all their ingredients. If award-winning flavor and top-notch Hawaiian hospitality is your thing, then do yourself a favor and swing on by!
- Hawaiian Style Café: Let’s close things out with quite the local favorite! Hawaiian Style Café has been a mainstay in both Waimea for decades and opened up a second location in Hilo a few years back. This unique and savory restaurant combines the very best in down-home stylings and gourmet dining, not to mention their famous pancakes and Kalua pork hash! They’re serving breakfast all day long at Hawaiian Style Café, and you simply must try their creative daily fish specials and poke bowls.
